Giving back to this great game in ways I can help future coaches is a current hope of mine.
I Started at Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, CA when my High School Coach gave me an opportunity to try coaching for my life's work.
Went on to USC in 1984 as a graduate Assistant on Ted Tollner's staff. Forever indebted to a great Coach and even better person for the opportunity toget started in college football and learn from some truly wonderful mentors and coaches.
In 1986, joined Jim Fassel's staff at Utah as a Graduate assistant again. Became recurithing coordinator and eventually Assistant QB Coach. More learning from a stellar staff of assistants. Pass protections and A QB's role in it was huge for me from OC Jack Reilly. All along the way, men came along side me an taught me the way to help players become their best. I will be forever grateful. Worked with QB Scott Mitchell
On to Tim Murphy's staffs at theUnversity of Cincinnati and Harvard. Coached receivers, QB's and coordinated pass game during those years. I admire Coach Murphy to this day for his longevity and success at Harvard, and his committment to staff and players.
The Chicago Bears under Dave Wannstedt was next. I learned much about a winning philosophy from that staff. Ron Turner was the OC I worked for, and his guidance and counsel have always stuck with me. Stick to what you believe in and teach it the right way..I took from that stop.
The University of Illinois . Qb's under Ron Turner...learned so much about offensive football. Micron PC Bowl Champs in 1999. Got to work with QB Kurt Kittner
Back to Utah as the OC under Ron McBride ...Vegas Bowl Champs in 2001
Went on to Rutgers with Greg Schiano as Offensive Coordinator/QB's in 2003... first Bowl appearance for Rutgers in many years at Insight.com Bowl in 2005.
In 2006 assisted new OC John Mcnulty.. under his leadership the offense really took off. I coached the Running Backs for him in 2007. I got to work with future NFL stars Ray Rice and Brian Leonard.
In 2008 John Harbaugh got the Ravens job and I joined him in Baltimore, I stayed 17 years in various offensive capacities. Got to raise my son, Ian (currently a WR at Wake Forest) in Baltimore - a true blessing. A Super Bowl Championship an working with QB Joe Flacco were highlights as well as the many great players and Coaches I got to know and work with. In 2021 and 2022 I coached the RB's. A great room of men: J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, Justice Hill, Latavius Murray, Leveon Bell, Devonta Freeman, Kenyan Drake, Mike Davis, Tyson Williams....among several others...all great men to be around and nothing I wouldn't do for any of them.
So grateful for the memories...for this career,,,and for my son growing up around men like these to learn what it takes to work at your passion an keep chasing your dreams.
Football does that for a young man,,,there are many ups and downs along the way. But God can use our pursuits in this sport to FORGE US into who HE wants us to be like no other game.
